Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, emphasized the importance of this new development. He noted that Bahrain is now the second country in the Arabian Gulf to adopt this advanced satellite system. The Meteorological Directorate has installed advanced satellite image and data receivers to support the updated meteorological system. With this upgrade, Bahrain can provide more accurate weather forecasts and real-time data. The new satellites will enhance Bahrain’s ability to capture high-resolution images and analyze weather conditions with remarkable accuracy.
Mr. Khalid Hussein Yassin, Director of the Meteorology Department, explained that the new system can update data every 15 minutes. It provides images with an accuracy of 0.5 kilometers, helping Bahrain improve its early warning systems. These advancements are crucial for predicting severe weather conditions like dust storms and fog, which can impact public safety and infrastructure.
