The Baghdad Forest Project Development continues advancing after Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani visited the construction site on Saturday.
Recently, he ordered officials to remove all obstacles, conflicts, and illegal structures within the forest’s boundaries. These efforts will restore order and support environmental goals.
The Prime Minister’s media office confirmed that he toured the sustainable Baghdad Forest site at the former Al-Rasheed Camp. His visit aimed to track the project’s progress since its launch in December.
During his inspection, Al-Sudani reviewed the massive project, which covers over 12 million square meters. Work now focuses on two main locations: along Mohammed Al-Qasim Expressway and near the Grand Baghdad Bridge.
Officials briefed the Prime Minister on completed work. They cleared huge amounts of debris, leveled the land, and treated the soil. They also ensured proper grading for upcoming phases.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister stressed the need to meet the timeline for each stage. He emphasized that this forest would serve as a vital recreational and environmental zone for Baghdad’s residents.
He also ordered deep soil treatment. Decades of hazardous waste polluted the area, so workers must stop those contaminants from reaching future gardens.
Al-Sudani instructed officials to remove any industrial activity or encroachment on the site. For families who live there illegally, the government must provide practical alternatives.
Moreover, he urged authorities to maximize green space within the sustainable forest. The Prime Minister wants the site to become a true environmental refuge for the capital.
So far, workers have cleared over 500,000 tons of waste. The project also includes a man-made lake, hotels, restaurants, gyms, sports fields, parking areas, service buildings, and diverse gardens.
Ultimately, the Baghdad Forest Project Development shows the government’s commitment to sustainability, public health, and urban revival. With continued effort, it will transform Baghdad’s environment and offer a peaceful escape for its growing population.
As work continues, the Baghdad Forest Project Development will help redefine Baghdad’s future and restore balance between nature and modern life.
