Al Shaqab Racing’s homebred Subahiyah made a stellar debut in the Qatar Prix Djebella II at Tarbes. She delivered a dominant performance to win the 1500m race for maiden Purebred Arabian fillies by a comfortable margin.
Trained by Francois Rohaut and ridden by Ioritz Mendizabal, the three-year-old filly stood out among a field of seven runners. All were making their racecourse debuts. The early pace was set slowly by Madjik De Chaillac, with Subahiyah tracking in second position, slightly wide.
As the race approached the final straight, Subahiyah surged forward. She travelled smoothly and decisively took the lead. Despite a brief challenge from Monaafasah, Subahiyah pulled away confidently. She won by two lengths with her ears pricked under a hands-and-heels ride.
Monaafasah, owned by Khalifa bin Sheail Al Kuwari, trained by T. Fourcy, and ridden by Fabrice Veron, held on for second place. Al Hakmah, owned and bred by Mohamed bin Fahad A H Al Attiyah, trained by X. Thomas-Demeaulte and ridden by Guillaume Guedj-Gay, finished strongly to claim third, just a head behind.
Ghazan Du Soleil bags Qatar Prix Denouste crown
In another impressive debut performance, Ghazan Du Soleil, a three-year-old colt, claimed victory in the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club-sponsored Qatar Prix Denouste at Tarbes.
Competing in a 1500m race for Purebred Arabian colts, the field included 10 runners. Ghazan Du Soleil, unraced before this outing, showed great promise from the start. Trained by Mrs Jean-Francois Bernard and owned by Mustafa Ahmed Teeka, the colt was guided to victory by jockey Jean-Bernard Eyquem.
Ghazan Du Soleil led from the outset. He ran alongside the favourite, Mahrouse, before holding off all challengers in the final stretch to win by a length.
Marzoog, owned by Mohammed Abdulhadi S S Al Hajri, trained by X. Thomas-Demeaulte, and ridden by Hugo Mouesan, secured second place. Mansoor De Faust, owned by Ahmed Feghouli, trained by Eric Dell’Ova, and partnered by Ioritz Mendizabal, finished a close third, just a nose behind.
This debut win marks a promising start for Ghazan Du Soleil, with expectations high for his development in upcoming races. His performance in the Qatar Prix Denouste laid a strong foundation for future success as a Purebred Arabian racehorse.
