Ajman Launches Council to Support Traditional Crafts

The Department of Tourism, Culture and Media in Ajman has launched the Craftsmen’s Council to preserve traditional Emirati crafts and support their development as part of the UAE’s cultural heritage.

The new initiative aims to provide a dedicated platform for artisans, strengthen creative industries, and enhance Ajman’s role as a hub for cultural innovation. The council aligns with the goals of Ajman Vision 2030, which focuses on supporting creative sectors, empowering local talent, and promoting sustainable economic growth.

The council will work to document traditional crafts, encourage modern designs inspired by Emirati heritage, and help transform handmade products into sustainable creative businesses. It will also provide training programs, workshops, exhibitions, and marketing opportunities to help craftsmen expand their reach locally and internationally.

The initiative will bring together artisans, designers, entrepreneurs, cultural institutions, and heritage organizations to exchange knowledge and develop new opportunities within the craft sector.

The council will also support young people and people of determination with creative skills by offering opportunities to participate in workshops and exhibitions, reflecting Ajman’s commitment to inclusion and community empowerment.

Mahmoud Khalil Al Hashemi, Director General of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Media in Ajman, said the launch represents a strategic step toward protecting Emirati cultural identity and strengthening the role of heritage in sustainable development.

He added that empowering craftsmen will help transform traditional skills into innovative products that reflect Emirati identity while meeting modern market demands.

The launch reinforces Ajman’s efforts to invest in culture as a driver of tourism and economic diversification, while increasing the global visibility of Emirati crafts and creative industries.
