Agricultural Products Station takes lead in boosting farming efficiency in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and AFDF have jointly funded over RO 300,000 for this key facility. This station helps farmers store, package, and market fresh produce to both local and export markets more effectively.
The station sits on 42,000 m² and uses modern technology to preserve quality. It complements Oman’s push to create advanced marketing networks in all governorates. Furthermore, it encourages farmers to improve supply chain standards, ensuring that produce meets high-quality thresholds.
Mohammed bin Ali Al Duwaiki, Deputy Chairman of the Oman Agricultural Association in North Al Sharqiyah, said the investment helps the station meet its goals. He emphasized that it inspires farmers to bring their goods to market in new ways. This shift aligns with Oman’s broader aims: to add value to local produce and compete globally.
Moreover, the station acts as a centralized logistics centre for seasonal crops. As such, it enables efficient collection, sorting, and distribution under one roof. This addition to the governorate’s infrastructure reflects an emphasis on optimizing agricultural supply chains.
In addition, the station’s use of advanced packaging technologies reduces post-harvest losses. This feature helps farmers fetch better prices. It also aligns with Oman’s plan to boost food security and reduce reliance on imports.
At its core, the project strengthens rural economies. Farmers now have a high-tech hub for processing and storing produce. This reduces the need to send goods far from farms. In turn, this keeps value within local communities.
Furthermore, the station creates employment opportunities. It requires staff for packaging, logistics, quality control, and administration. Such roles support local livelihoods and foster community growth.
Additionally, the station helps maintain high hygiene and quality standards. This ensures that produce meets both domestic and export requirements. Consequently, Omani agricultural goods are better positioned for markets abroad.
Looking forward, the Ministry plans to establish similar stations across Oman. This aims to expand the network of agricultural products station hubs, enhancing marketing infrastructure and supporting small farmers.
In summary, the agricultural products station initiative marks a strategic investment. It empowers farmers, safeguards produce quality, and strengthens Oman’s agricultural sector. Ultimately, these centres contribute significantly to adding value and supporting economic diversification.
