Labour Syndicate Action Recognized on Workers Day

The General Federation of Oman Workers hosted a major event on Sunday in Muscat. This celebration honored International Workers Day, which occurs every year on May 1. The gathering aimed to spotlight labour syndicate action and its growing impact in Oman. Officials, labour union leaders, and private sector representatives joined the event. Their presence signaled strong support for fair and balanced workforce development.

Dr. Mahad Said Ba’Owain, Minister of Labour, led the event and addressed the crowd. He emphasized the significance of labour syndicate action in improving workplace conditions. The event also marked the launch of two digital programmes aimed at supporting workers. These initiatives intend to increase efficiency and transparency across Oman’s labour movement. Organizers stressed the importance of digital tools in uniting labour efforts.

One of the programmes, Labour Syndicates Data Management, simplifies union processes. It helps unions maintain a shared database for smooth information access. This system also promotes better communication between syndicates nationwide. The programme promises more streamlined decision-making and faster coordination. Stakeholders expect it to reshape how unions manage their operations.

In addition, the GFOW unveiled a new partnership with Thawani Technologies. Together, they introduced a “Privileges for GFOW Affiliate Members” programme. The initiative offers new benefits for union members across sectors. These perks aim to build loyalty and boost union engagement. Organizers hope the programme strengthens ties between syndicates and their members.

To conclude the ceremony, officials presented the Labour Syndicate Action Award 2025. Multiple groups received honors, including government departments and private companies. These winners earned praise for advancing labour syndicate action in Oman. The award encourages broader participation in labour development efforts. Through these celebrations, Oman reinforces its commitment to workers and fair labor practices.
