Athletes to Receive $5,000 for Breaking Records at 2025 Doha Diamond League Meet

Athletes competing in the upcoming Doha Meeting on May 16 will now have an added incentive. Event organizers have confirmed a $5,000 bonus for every new meeting record set during the competition.

This marks the first time the Doha Meeting will offer financial rewards for records across all disciplines. It aligns with the event’s growing reputation on the international athletics circuit. The announcement comes alongside a record $9.24 million prize pot for the 2025 Wanda Diamond League series.

“The Doha Meeting has established itself as one of the premier fixtures in the Diamond League calendar,” said Mohammed Al Fadala, President of the Qatar Athletics Federation. “As an ambitious sporting nation, we are committed to enhancing the athlete experience and delivering world-class events. Introducing record bonuses underlines our dedication to excellence and innovation in global athletics.”

Al Fadala emphasized the importance of hospitality and creating an ideal competitive environment. He noted that these elements are vital to Qatar’s strategy in maintaining its stature on the global stage.

At last year’s event, two meeting records were set: Kenny Bednarek of the United States in the men’s 200m (19.67 seconds) and Brazil’s Alison dos Santos in the men’s 400m hurdles (46.86 seconds).

The 2025 Doha Meeting will be the third stop in the Wanda Diamond League series. This series includes 15 high-profile athletics events spanning four continents. The season will conclude with a two-day final in Zurich on August 27-28.
