Saudi Arabia and Korea Launch Next-Gen Agriculture Project

Saudi Arabia and South Korea launched a new era of smart farming innovation on Monday in Riyadh. Senior officials from both nations broke ground on a high-tech agriculture complex set to transform regional farming.

Saudi Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Mansour Al Mushaiti and South Korea’s Vice Minister Park Beom-su led the ceremony. Together, they laid the foundation for a smart agriculture project focused on modern solutions and sustainability.

The new facility spans 4,000 square meters and will operate at the National Agricultural and Animal Resources Research Center. It features vertical farms, AI-powered greenhouses, and advanced mobile farming systems.

Al Mushaiti described the project as a milestone in Saudi Arabia’s agricultural journey. He praised the joint effort, calling it a symbol of shared goals and innovation. “This is a new turning point,” he said. “It supports food security and sustainable development.”

The project blends Korea’s technological strength with Saudi Arabia’s agricultural ambitions. It uses artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and container farming to improve crop yields. Leafy greens, mushrooms, and strawberries will grow inside vertical systems powered by smart tools.

AI systems will manage water use, monitor growing conditions, and suggest optimal crops. The data-driven approach allows real-time decision-making and efficient farming. Robots will also support harvesting and crop monitoring.

Korean greenhouse technology will reduce water and fertilizer use. This method improves productivity and lowers costs, benefiting farmers and consumers alike. The facility aims to double output compared to traditional greenhouses.

Both ministers emphasized how this collaboration pushes boundaries. It offers a model for future farming across the Middle East and beyond. Smart farming innovation drives the project, offering scalable, eco-friendly, and high-yield solutions.

As climate challenges grow, smart farming innovation emerges as the path forward. Saudi Arabia and South Korea are leading that path—together.
