Bahraini Ministries Unite to Strengthen Citizens’ Right to Adequate Housing

In a significant political move, Bahrain’s government is taking new steps to uphold the right to adequate housing. This initiative brings together two important ministries—the Ministry of Human Rights and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning.

Engineer Ali Ahmed Al-Dirazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights, hosted a key meeting this week. He welcomed Ms. Fatima Ibrahim Al-Mannai, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning. The meeting took place at the institution’s main headquarters.

During their discussion, both leaders stressed the importance of inter-ministerial cooperation. They focused specifically on enhancing policies that promote the right to adequate housing. This right is part of international human rights conventions, making it a top national priority.

To begin with, Al-Dirazi praised the Ministry of Housing for its work. He noted their commitment to housing programs that meet citizens’ needs. He also emphasized that the National Institution stands ready to support these efforts. According to him, working together will help embed the right to adequate housing in Bahrain’s broader human rights strategy.

Furthermore, Al-Mannai expressed deep appreciation for the institution’s role in protecting human rights. She acknowledged the successful cooperation between the two entities. In addition, she affirmed her ministry’s ongoing dedication to strengthening citizens’ social and economic rights.

Importantly, the meeting highlighted how both ministries are aligning their strategies. This unified approach aims to guarantee fair and accessible housing for all Bahrainis. With stronger coordination, officials believe they can make long-term improvements in housing policy.

This development reflects Bahrain’s growing focus on inclusive governance. By placing the right to adequate housing at the center, the government shows its dedication to both dignity and equality. Citizens can expect continued progress as both ministries build on this shared commitment.
