QU students showcase awareness campaigns in environmental and climate change competition

Qatar University (QU), in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, recently hosted the semi-final evaluation of student-led awareness campaigns. The focus was on environmental and climate change issues for the Spring 2025 term.

Students from various academic disciplines, including Marketing, Mass Communication, Biological and Environmental Sciences, and the College of Education, took part in the event. They presented innovative awareness campaigns using a range of media and communication strategies. These campaigns aimed at addressing key environmental topics.

The campaigns were evaluated by a panel of faculty members and industry experts. They selected the most impactful projects to advance to the final round of the competition.

This initiative includes interactive workshops designed to spark student interest in environmental matters and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By designing awareness campaigns, students learn the principles of sustainability and environmental protection. They also gain practical experience in community engagement. The competition fosters teamwork among interdisciplinary groups and helps participants better understand the environmental challenges facing the local community.

Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Muslimani, Assistant Undersecretary for Natural Reserves Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, highlighted the importance of the partnership with QU. He noted that the initiative underscores the crucial role of youth in environmental protection and praised the creativity displayed by the student teams. He also emphasized the value of such collaborations in raising public awareness. Furthermore, he expressed pride in the students’ efforts and potential.

Prof. Aiman Erbad, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at QU, commented on the importance of integrating scientific research with environmental education. He expressed confidence that student involvement in such initiatives helps prepare a conscious and capable generation. This generation will be ready to lead the shift toward a more sustainable future.
