Oman Participates in Arab Economic and Social Council Meeting in Cairo

The Sultanate of Oman actively participated in the extraordinary session of the Arab Economic and Social Council, which convened in Cairo. This session is part of the preparations for the 5th Arab Development Summit, scheduled to take place in Iraq on 17 May 2025. The summit will coincide with the 34th regular session of the Arab Summit.

The Omani delegation, led by Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, the Minister of Economy, engaged in significant discussions during the meeting. The primary focus was on enhancing economic cooperation among Arab nations. The meeting explored critical topics such as finalizing the Greater Arab Free Trade Zone and the Arab Customs Union.

The discussions emphasized the importance of economic sustainability within the Arab world. Key issues related to water security were addressed, with a special focus on updating the Arab Water Security Strategy. This strategy aims to tackle challenges related to resource scarcity, a growing concern across the region.

In addition, the meeting delved into the Arab Strategy for Manpower Development and Employment. This strategy is designed to align with ongoing economic and technological transitions in the Arab world. The goal is to ensure that the workforce is prepared for the evolving demands of the global economy.

Furthermore, the session reviewed the Arab Vision 2045, which serves as a strategic roadmap for the region’s future development. This vision outlines ambitious goals aimed at achieving sustainable growth, economic integration, and technological advancement across Arab nations.

As the meeting concluded, the Arab Economic and Social Council underscored the need for continued cooperation in these vital areas. The participation of Oman highlights the country’s commitment to advancing economic and social development in the Arab world. Through such engagements, Oman seeks to contribute to shaping a prosperous future for the region.
