Doha, Qatar – The second round of the Qatar Drag Racing Championship (QDRC) came to an electrifying conclusion at Qatar Racing Club (QRC), with fresh faces dominating the podium. The competition was held under the patronage of QRC Chairman H E Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Thani. Over 150 competitors battled it out across eight categories, including six for cars and two for bikes.
New Winners Shine in Intense Quarter-Mile Showdowns
Unlike the opening round, where familiar champions prevailed, the second round of QDRC witnessed dramatic shifts in podium finishes. Only Kuwait’s Mohammed Bo Rashid managed to defend his title, while all other categories crowned new champions.
In the INDEX 10.00 category, last round’s champion Hisham Al Awadi reached the final but was defeated by Hussein Al Balushi. Balushi secured his first-ever title. A similar upset occurred in the INDEX 8.50 category. Here, Hamdan Al Kaabi, the opening round’s winner, finished second. He lost to Mustafa Atat, who claimed his maiden championship victory.
The INDEX 9.00 final saw a fierce battle between Rumaih Jassim and Badr Al Fodari. Jassim emerged as the new champion. In the motorcycle INDEX 8.50 category, the podium was completely reshuffled. Abdullah Al Ansari secured first place, followed by Mohammed Ali in second. Meanwhile, the youngest competitor, Yusuf Al Darwish, achieved an impressive third-place finish.
Bo Rashid Retains His Title, Super Street Sees Fierce Competition
The only driver to maintain his dominance was Mohammed Bo Rashid. He repeated his opening-round victory by defeating Mohammed Al Salem in the final once again. Al Salem, hoping for redemption, had to settle for second place.
In the INDEX 4.50 category, Mohammed Al Awad defeated Abdulaziz Al Saleh to claim the title. Saeed Al Balushi secured third place. Meanwhile, the INDEX 4.80 final saw Yusuf Adel Al Khamiri defeat Nawaf Mesier Al Khalidi. Both reached the podium for the first time this season.
The most powerful class, the Super Street category, had only two competitors in the final. This led to the third-place prize being withheld. Turki Al Dhufairi took the championship win, marking his second podium appearance after securing third place in the first round. Badr Al Sharshani secured his first podium finish of the season, claiming second place.
Next Round Set for More Action
QRC Head of Operations Jassim Al Emadi awarded trophies to the top finishers in each category. The championship action resumes on Thursday, with the first and second qualifying sessions. This will be followed by the third session on Fridaybefore elimination rounds begin. Fans can expect another thrilling weekend as competitors push their limits on the drag strip.
