Saudi Heart Campaign Targets 108 Procedures in Nigeria

The Saudi Heart Campaign has launched in Nigeria, bringing specialist medical support to patients requiring advanced cardiac treatment. Led by Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, the initiative plans to deliver 108 heart surgeries and catheterization procedures.

The campaign began in Abuja on Tuesday through cooperation between KSrelief and the Al-Balsam Association for Health Training and Development. Organizers plan to perform 28 open-heart surgeries alongside 80 diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization procedures. Together, these treatments aim to address a range of heart conditions requiring specialized medical attention.

Medical teams are carrying out the procedures at Nizamiye Hospital in Nigeria’s capital. The Saudi delegation includes ten volunteers with expertise across several healthcare disciplines. Among them are specialist doctors, consultants, nurses, technicians, and administrative personnel supporting the campaign.

Furthermore, the visiting team is working closely with Nigerian healthcare professionals throughout the initiative. Together, they assess patients, determine appropriate treatments, and provide care in clinical facilities and operating rooms. This cooperation brings international specialist experience into local medical settings while supporting treatment delivery.

Open-heart surgery can address serious cardiac conditions that require direct surgical intervention. Meanwhile, cardiac catheterization allows specialists to investigate heart problems and perform certain treatments using thin tubes inserted into blood vessels. Doctors determine the appropriate approach according to each patient’s medical needs and condition.

The Saudi Heart Campaign forms part of KSrelief’s broader voluntary medical program. Through this program, the center sends specialist teams to countries where patients may struggle to access advanced healthcare. These missions focus particularly on communities and families facing financial barriers to necessary medical treatment.

Moreover, the initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s continued involvement in international humanitarian and healthcare assistance. By organizing specialist missions abroad, the Kingdom seeks to support patients who need procedures unavailable to them locally or beyond their financial means. Such campaigns also create opportunities for medical professionals from different countries to work together.

The collaboration with the Al-Balsam Association provides an organizational framework for delivering the planned procedures. At Nizamiye Hospital, medical teams can coordinate patient assessments, surgical schedules, and treatment arrangements. However, each patient’s care depends on individual clinical evaluations and the judgment of the attending specialists.

The planned total of 108 procedures includes both major surgery and catheter-based interventions. Consequently, the campaign addresses patients with differing cardiac needs rather than concentrating on a single type of treatment. The combination of procedures allows participating specialists to provide several forms of cardiac care during the mission.

The campaign also highlights the role of medical volunteers in humanitarian work. Doctors, nurses, technicians, and administrative staff contribute different skills needed to coordinate complex procedures safely. Meanwhile, collaboration with Nigerian professionals helps integrate the visiting team’s work into the hospital’s existing clinical environment.

As the campaign proceeds, the planned treatments are expected to offer specialist assistance to patients selected for care. KSrelief’s voluntary medical missions continue to focus on providing services to people with limited access to advanced treatment. The Nigeria initiative adds another international effort to that wider humanitarian program.
