Riyadh Missile Interception Injures Four People

A Riyadh Missile interception left four people injured after falling debris damaged residential properties in the Saudi capital. Saudi air defenses intercepted hostile missiles above the city, while shrapnel reached approximately 15 homes, according to Civil Defense officials.

Residents heard loud explosions shortly before midnight on Tuesday as Saudi forces engaged aerial threats over Riyadh. The Saudi Civil Defense later confirmed that fragments from two intercepted cruise missiles struck residential areas. Authorities released photographs showing damage to civilian homes following the incident.

Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki, spokesman for the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, reported additional interception operations. He said a ballistic missile targeting Riyadh had been destroyed on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Saudi Civil Defense lifted its earlier danger warnings for Riyadh and Al-Kharj Governorate.

The security incidents extended beyond the capital, as authorities reported several missile and drone threats across Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. Saudi forces intercepted ballistic missiles launched toward Dhahran and Haradh, according to the report. In Dhahran, an administrative building belonging to Saudi Aramco became a target, although officials reported no injuries there.

Al-Maliki also announced that Saudi defenses destroyed three drones north of Riyadh late Tuesday. Separately, he reported the destruction of a cruise missile in Al-Kharj Governorate early Wednesday. These incidents prompted authorities to maintain public safety guidance as security forces continued responding to aerial threats.

Saudi ministers condemned repeated Houthi attacks during a Cabinet session chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The government warned that the group would face consequences for its actions against the Kingdom. Ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to protecting navigation through the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab Strait.

Furthermore, the Cabinet supported coalition operations intended to address threats against Yemenis, international security, and global trade. The statement highlighted concerns about the Houthis’ activities and their potential effects on regional stability. However, the wider security situation remains a significant concern for Saudi authorities.

The latest Riyadh Missile incident follows a series of reported attacks against airports and other infrastructure. The report said an attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday killed 13 people and injured hundreds. Saudi authorities and other observers widely condemned the attack on the civilian facility.

Authorities also reported attacks involving Abha International Airport and Yemen’s Aden International Airport during the same period. Footage released by Saudi officials showed passengers waiting inside Riyadh’s airport terminal before a bright flash appeared. Those present included religious pilgrims preparing to travel to Makkah and Madinah.

According to Saudi aviation authorities, the airport attack killed citizens from several countries, including Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh. The reported victims also included nationals from Palestine, the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Sudan. A Pakistani civilian reportedly died the following day during another attack on the same airport.

The report describes renewed Houthi activity in Yemen since July, alongside threats involving Saudi oil shipments through the Bab Al-Mandab Strait. It also links the group’s activities to broader regional tensions involving Iran and the United States. These claims form part of the wider geopolitical context surrounding the reported attacks.

Saudi Arabia has faced additional concerns involving energy infrastructure. In September, the Kingdom reportedly shut its East-West Pipeline after Iran-aligned groups in Iraq targeted the facility. Such incidents have raised concerns about energy security and the stability of regional supply routes.

Authorities have also reported drone and missile threats near Islam’s holiest cities. A Houthi drone was reportedly intercepted south of Makkah in September. Earlier this month, another drone struck a power station supplying the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, according to the report.

The report also recalled a 2017 incident in which coalition forces intercepted a missile approaching Makkah. Because Makkah and Madinah hold exceptional religious significance, threats affecting these cities or visiting pilgrims carry serious implications. Saudi authorities continue emphasizing public safety as the Kingdom responds to reported missile and drone attacks.
