Sharjah Smart Cameras Enhance Public Transport Safety Across Buses and Taxis

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority deployed artificial intelligence surveillance systems across its regional public transport fleet. Technical teams installed ten AI-powered cameras inside and outside every intercity bus across the emirate. Additionally, technicians equipped taxis with five specialized cameras providing full coverage of interior cabins and surrounding roads. Consequently, the integration of Sharjah smart cameras directly boosts passenger safety while monitoring driver behavior in real time.

The advanced surveillance system continuously tracks pedestrian movement, side-lane overtaking, and overall road hazard conditions. Furthermore, automated algorithms analyze driver fatigue, count daily passengers, and quickly identify items left behind in vehicles. The smart technology also detects traffic accidents instantly and sends immediate emergency alerts to central monitoring hubs. Therefore, operational supervisors can rapidly coordinate responses to road incidents and maintain high safety standards continuously.

SRTA Chairman Yousif Khamis Al Othmani stated that continuous tech investment builds safer and more sustainable infrastructure. He noted that safe public transport supports community wellbeing and aligns directly with national family initiative goals. Meanwhile, Director of Transport Affairs Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Jarwan highlighted how AI improves emergency response times significantly. Consequently, smart mobility solutions remain a vital fundamental pillar for upgrading municipal transit networks and services.

The deployment reflects a strategic commitment to incorporating modern technological solutions across all regional public transit operations. Furthermore, modern surveillance capabilities ensure comfortable journeys for passengers while assisting drivers with real-time hazard detection. Advanced data gathering allows transport authorities to refine daily routes, improve driver training, and boost network efficiency. Ultimately, expanding the use of Sharjah smart cameras reinforces the emirate’s position as a regional leader in safe mobility.
