Kuwait’s CITRA Receives 156 Scam Reports in July

Kuwait’s Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) received 156 reports of suspected fraud and scam attempts during July, with fraudulent website links and phone calls emerging as the most common methods used by scammers.

According to CITRA, 54 reports involved suspicious website links, while 52 were linked to fraudulent phone calls. Another 26 complaints related to scams carried out through WhatsApp, with the remaining 24 involving other social media platforms.

The latest figures show an increase from the 70 reports recorded in June, although they remain below the 250 cases reported in May.

The authority urged the public to remain cautious when receiving unexpected messages, links or calls and to report any suspicious activity immediately.

CITRA also advised residents never to share personal information, banking details or one-time passwords (OTPs) with unverified individuals or organisations, warning that scammers often use such information to gain unauthorised access to financial accounts.

The regulator continues to encourage greater public awareness as part of its efforts to combat cyber fraud and protect users from online financial crimes.
