OIC, Arab Parliament Condemn Houthi Threats Against Saudi Arabia

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab Parliament have reaffirmed their support for Saudi Arabia after condemning recent threats by Yemen’s Houthi group, warning that such actions could undermine regional stability and maritime security.

In a statement, OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha denounced threats directed at Saudi Arabia as well as warnings targeting international shipping routes in the Red Sea. He called for the implementation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions on Yemen and stressed the importance of protecting freedom of navigation.

The OIC said the latest remarks follow a series of Houthi attacks and allegations against the Kingdom, including missile strikes targeting southern Saudi Arabia. It warned that continued threats to maritime traffic pose risks to both regional and global security.

The organization reiterated its full support for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to safeguard its security and highlighted the Kingdom’s humanitarian and development assistance to Yemen.

The Arab Parliament also condemned statements made by the Houthis accusing Saudi Arabia of imposing a blockade on Yemen and restricting maritime navigation.

Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi described the accusations as irresponsible and said they ignored Saudi Arabia’s continued support for the Yemeni people. He reaffirmed the parliament’s backing for the Kingdom, stressing that Saudi Arabia’s security is an essential part of Arab national security.

Al Yamahi also urged the international community to enforce relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2722, to protect freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and counter actions that threaten regional and international stability.
