A foreign intelligence assessment cited by Israeli public broadcaster Kan has alleged that Qatar provided economic and military-related support to Iran over several years, as ties between the two countries deepened following the collapse of the 2015 nuclear agreement.
According to the report, cooperation between Doha and Tehran expanded after the United States withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018. The assessment reportedly claims that the relationship grew across multiple sectors, including trade, energy and the supply of materials with potential military applications.
Kan said the intelligence document, whose origin was not disclosed, alleged that Qatar supplied Iran with dual-use materials that could be used for both civilian and military purposes. These reportedly included components and substances that could support the production of rockets and drones.
The broadcaster did not identify the intelligence agency responsible for the assessment, nor did it provide details on when the report was produced or how it was obtained.
The report also alleged that trade and economic cooperation between the two countries increased significantly in recent years. Qatar and Iran have maintained diplomatic and economic relations despite periods of heightened regional tensions and have regularly engaged in high-level exchanges.
Among the claims was that approximately $6 billion in Iranian funds held in Qatar could become accessible under a proposed agreement currently being negotiated between the United States and Iran. The report alleged that the funds could be used to support Iranian regional activities, though no evidence was publicly presented.
Qatar has long played a diplomatic role in regional conflicts and has served as a mediator in several international disputes. The Gulf state also hosts a major US military base and maintains relations with a wide range of regional and international actors.
The allegations emerge at a sensitive time as Washington and Tehran continue negotiations aimed at reducing tensions and reaching a broader understanding on regional security and Iran’s nuclear programme.
Neither Qatari nor Iranian authorities immediately commented on the claims contained in the reported intelligence assessment.
