Bahrain MP Rejects Claims Challenging Kingdom’s Sovereignty

Bahraini MP Munir Sarour has strongly criticized remarks attributed to the editor-in-chief of Iran’s Kayhan newspaper, saying the statements contained unfounded claims that undermine the sovereignty and independence of Bahrain.

In a statement issued on Monday, Sarour said Bahrain’s status as an independent Arab state is firmly established and cannot be challenged by what he described as political rhetoric detached from historical and legal realities.

He said the Kingdom’s legitimacy rests on its history, institutions and the will of its people, adding that attempts to question these foundations reflect outdated views that fail to recognize modern principles of state sovereignty and mutual respect between nations.

Sarour also criticized what he called expansionist narratives, arguing that international relations should be based on cooperation, shared interests and respect for national borders rather than provocative statements.

The lawmaker said Bahrainis remain united in supporting efforts to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, security and stability. He added that such remarks only strengthen national cohesion and reinforce pride in Bahrain’s identity.

Concluding his statement, Sarour said Bahrain has repeatedly demonstrated its resilience in the face of challenges and remains committed to preserving its independence and sovereign decision-making.

He stressed that the Kingdom would continue to uphold its Arab identity and national interests while rejecting any claims that seek to undermine its sovereignty.
