Saudi Reserve Records Surge In Sand Gazelle Births

More than 40 Arabian sand gazelles have been born at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve in Saudi Arabia during the first quarter of 2026, authorities said, highlighting progress in wildlife conservation and habitat restoration efforts.

The reserve’s development authority said the births were documented through ongoing field monitoring carried out by specialist teams working within the protected area.

Officials described the increase in natural reproduction as a strong indication that conservation and habitat management programmes are helping restore ecological balance and create suitable conditions for endangered wildlife species.

The Arabian sand gazelle, considered one of the iconic species of the Arabian Peninsula, has faced a significant decline in population over recent decades due to overhunting and environmental pressures.

Authorities said the latest births reflect the success of reintroduction and protection initiatives aimed at helping the species recover in its natural habitat.

The reserve, located in northeastern Saudi Arabia, spans more than 91,000 square kilometres and extends across several regions, including the Northern Borders, Al-Jouf, Hail, Qassim and the Eastern Province.

Known for its diverse landscapes and environmental features, the protected area has become an important site for biodiversity conservation and the preservation of native wildlife in the Kingdom.
