Kuwait Allows Recreational Fishing And Sailing In Kuwait Bay With New Safety And Environmental Rules

Kuwait’s Environment Public Authority has announced the resumption of recreational fishing and sailing activities in Kuwait Bay starting Sunday, under newly regulated timings and environmental safety guidelines.

According to the authority, recreational fishing boats will be permitted to operate daily from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Coast Guard.

Officials said the decision comes as part of efforts to balance recreational maritime activity with environmental protection and navigational safety requirements.

Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, Director of Public Relations and Media at the Environment Public Authority, said permits for fishing trips can be obtained electronically through the authority’s online platform or via Kuwait’s government services application, Sahel.

She added that Kuwait Bay remains an ecologically significant area, serving as a breeding ground for marine life and coastal ecosystems, and stressed the importance of protecting it from pollution and overuse.

Authorities urged boat operators to strictly follow designated sailing zones, approved timings, and environmental regulations to ensure both public safety and marine conservation.

The Environment Public Authority warned that violations of the rules would be treated as breaches of environmental law and subject to legal action under national environmental regulations.

The Coast Guard also emphasized the importance of activating the Automatic Identification System (AIS) on all vessels to enhance maritime monitoring and ensure rapid response capabilities.

Officials further advised boaters to avoid restricted areas, including zones near oil facilities and critical infrastructure, and to obtain required permits and QR codes before setting out at sea.

The National Guard confirmed continued inspections and security oversight across key maritime locations to ensure operational readiness and support national safety measures.
