Iraqi Interior Ministry Confirms Polish Detainees Held for Identity Verification

Polish nationals were temporarily detained in Baghdad as authorities conducted routine identity verification procedures on Saturday morning. Iraqi officials clarified that Polish nationals had no connection to espionage or illegal activities during their stay.

The Interior Ministry emphasized that security forces acted swiftly due to the proximity of Polish nationals to Tahrir Square, a sensitive area in Baghdad. Officials explained that the temporary detainment aimed solely to confirm legal entry and residence status within Iraq.

All five Polish nationals had entered Iraq through official entry points roughly ten days before their detainment occurred. Authorities carefully examined identification documents, residency permits, and entry procedures before confirming their legal presence in the country. The ministry stressed that Polish nationals posed no threat to local security or public order.

Officials urged journalists and social media users to rely only on verified official sources to prevent confusion. Accurate reporting, they said, remains crucial during heightened regional tensions across the Middle East.

The temporary detention of Polish nationals occurred amid ongoing conflicts involving multiple countries in the region. Despite the tense security climate, Iraqi authorities maintained that legal procedures guided all actions, highlighting their commitment to law and safety. Polish nationals remained cooperative throughout the verification process.

After careful review, authorities confirmed the Polish nationals’ identity and legal status, allowing them to continue their stay without restriction. Officials reiterated that foreign visitors should not face assumptions or misreporting regarding espionage allegations in Iraq. Iraqi security forces emphasized that administrative checks ensure safety while upholding the law.

Polish nationals, now officially cleared, can freely continue their stay in Baghdad while authorities maintain vigilance over security protocols. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to following legal procedures carefully, emphasizing transparency and accountability in all administrative processes.
