Ukraine has firmly denied providing drones or other military equipment to Syrian armed groups. Ambassador Ivan Dovhanych told reporters in Iraq that all Ukrainian military resources are focused on protecting the country’s sovereignty and citizens.
Dovhanych addressed allegations linking Ukraine to the former Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a now-defunct al-Qaeda affiliate. He confirmed Kyiv never supplied drones or weapons to HTS, and no Ukrainian equipment was used in Aleppo clashes.
“Ukraine dedicates all military capabilities to defending our territory against the Russian invasion,” Dovhanych said. He described claims of involvement in Syria as false and warned the public to treat them with skepticism.
The ambassador also criticized Russia for spreading misleading information. He noted that Moscow frequently invents claims of Ukrainian activity outside its borders, including in the Syrian conflict. “These disinformation campaigns aim to distort the truth about Ukraine,” he explained.
Regarding Syria, Dovhanych clarified that Ukraine maintains official relations only with the interim Damascus government. Kyiv does not engage with non-state armed actors or factions in the conflict. He emphasized Ukraine’s respect for Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Dovhanych stressed that lasting peace in Syria requires inclusive dialogue under United Nations supervision. He called on all parties to follow diplomatic channels while honoring Syria’s legal and political frameworks.
Ukraine’s stance reinforces that its military focus remains on defending its own territory. The country continues to reject external conflict involvement while maintaining disciplined, lawful operations at home.
In conclusion, the ambassador confirmed that Ukraine will maintain its defensive posture. The government prioritizes its people’s security and fully respects international norms regarding regional conflicts.
