Oman Launches New National University of Science and Technology Campus

The National University of Science and Technology campus project took a major step forward with the foundation stone laid in Sultan Haitham City. From the beginning, the National University of Science and Technology campus project aims to expand higher education and strengthen Oman’s knowledge-based economy. Moreover, the project aligns with Oman Vision 2040, emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and smart urban planning. As a result, the new campus promises a modern, integrated educational environment for thousands of students.

The ceremony took place under the guidance of Oman’s Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, who laid the foundation stone and unveiled a 3D model of the campus. Officials, faculty, and project stakeholders attended the event, which also featured an exhibition showcasing the campus’s stages and future facilities. Consequently, the event highlighted the university’s commitment to combining education with urban development.

Spanning 31,890 square meters, the campus will accommodate 2,435 students. It will house the College of Advanced Technology and the College of Engineering, alongside administrative offices, research facilities, and innovation incubators. Furthermore, the design blends Omani cultural elements with modern architectural trends, reflecting the university’s identity and academic vision. This ensures students benefit from both functional and inspiring learning spaces.

University leadership emphasized the campus’s strategic importance. The chairman highlighted its role in developing national competencies that can compete locally and globally. Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor noted that the project complements Oman’s smart city initiatives, linking educational growth with sustainable urban planning. The campus will also collaborate with prestigious universities and research centers to promote innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning confirmed that the first phase will focus on administrative and core academic facilities. Subsequent phases will include specialized research and learning buildings to accommodate future expansion. Additionally, the project integrates renewable energy, efficient water use, sustainable mobility, and waste management to achieve net-zero carbon targets.

Experts believe the National University of Science and Technology campus project represents a transformative step for Oman’s education system. By combining advanced infrastructure, smart city planning, and environmental sustainability, the project provides a platform for innovation and knowledge creation. Ultimately, the National University of Science and Technology campus project marks a milestone in Oman’s efforts to develop a modern, future-ready academic environment for its students.
