Kuwait Shuts Schools as Strong Weather System Brings Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms

Kuwait announced major safety measures on Wednesday as unstable weather continued to intensify across the country. The government confirmed that all public and private schools will close on Thursday as part of a broader Kuwait weather alert designed to protect students and staff.

Authorities stated that the decision followed detailed updates from the Meteorological Department. Forecasters noted that Kuwait faces scattered thunderstorms that may vary in strength throughout the day. They added that these conditions developed because of a strong mix of warm, humid air and a cold upper-level system. This mix increased cloud formation and created ideal conditions for heavy rain.

Acting Director of the Meteorological Department Dharar Al-Ali explained that the weather pattern began influencing Kuwait early Wednesday. He said that the system brought low and medium clouds along with larger cumulonimbus clouds. These clouds often create intense rain bursts, lightning, and thunder. Moreover, he highlighted that wind speeds may exceed 45 kilometers per hour, which adds more risk for families traveling on Thursday.

Although weather conditions remain unstable, forecasters expect gradual improvement by Thursday evening. However, authorities still advised residents to remain cautious because some areas may experience fog, reduced visibility, and sudden downpours. Traffic disruption remains possible during the morning hours, especially in low-lying areas that often collect water after strong rain.

Additionally, Al-Ali warned that southeasterly winds may continue to strengthen during the peak of the storm. These winds could push waves above six feet, which increases risks for marine activities. Because of this, authorities urged boat owners to postpone unnecessary trips and monitor updates closely. These warnings reinforce the importance of the ongoing Kuwait weather alert, which aims to keep communities informed.

Furthermore, emergency teams prepared response plans to handle any sudden flooding. Local authorities activated teams across several districts to monitor rainfall levels and assist residents if conditions worsen. While Kuwait experiences seasonal rain, the current system remains stronger than usual because of the unusual low-pressure combination. This intensified reaction brought the government’s decision to close schools and reduce movement.

Parents welcomed the announcement because safety remains the top priority. Many families shared concerns about commuting during heavy rain. The closure gives them time to adjust schedules until conditions improve later in the day.

As the country continues to monitor the storm, officials encourage everyone to follow updates through reliable channels. Each warning helps residents understand changing conditions and respond safely. The ongoing Kuwait weather alert plays an essential role in guiding the public until the unstable system passes.
