Qatar Launches Social Sciences RDI Community to Boost Innovation and Society

The Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council has launched the Qatar Social Sciences RDI Community. This new initiative brings together researchers, policymakers, and innovators to address Qatar’s pressing social challenges. From the start, the community focuses on applying social innovation and research to create practical solutions for society.

The launch event took place ahead of WISE 12 and hosted more than 350 attendees. Government officials, academic leaders, industry experts, and civil society members joined the discussions. Keynote speeches, panel talks, as well as interactive sessions explored ways to connect research with policy and real-world outcomes.

Omar Ali Al-Ansari, Secretary General of the QRDI Council, said understanding society is essential to guide innovation. He also added that the community creates a space where social innovation and research directly informs decisions. This approach ensures that policies match the needs of the people and bring meaningful change.

Minister of Education Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater emphasized the role of social sciences in shaping national development. Moreover, she encouraged attendees to use research to improve education, strengthen social cohesion, and enhance mental well-being.

The community connects diverse stakeholders to generate evidence-based solutions for policymakers. Experts discussed improving access to education, promoting inclusion, and supporting sustainable economic growth. It also offers a hub for sharing knowledge and transforming research into actionable steps.

This initiative aligns with Qatar’s Third National Development Strategy, which identifies social sciences as key to national progress. By linking research, innovation, and policy, the community helps accelerate social impact across sectors.

Al-Ansari stressed that the community empowers researchers, government, and industry partners to work together. By focusing on social innovation and research, Qatar strengthens its position as a leader in practical, evidence-driven solutions.

Overall, the community will continue hosting workshops, projects, and discussions on governance, education, and social well-being. It encourages active participation from all stakeholders. In doing so, Qatar ensures that innovation serves society, making social innovation and research a foundation for its future development.
