UAE Flag Day 2025: Key Guidelines to Honor the Nation’s Symbol Properly

As the United Arab Emirates celebrates Flag Day on November 3, respecting the national flag symbolizes unity and pride. Following national flag etiquette ensures that the country’s emblem retains its dignity and meaning. Citizens, residents, and institutions across the UAE prepare to hoist the flag, keeping its significance in mind.

Flag Day commemorates 1971, when the UAE’s founding father first raised the red, green, white, and black flag during Eid Al Etihad. Since then, the flag has represented national identity, loyalty, and unity. Therefore, observing the national flag etiquette remains vital for every official or personal occasion.

Officials highlight several dos for raising the flag. Use a high-quality polyester blend made from sustainable fibers. Avoid overly shiny or matte finishes. Always keep the flag 20 to 25 centimeters above the pole base. Ensure the flag is clean, ironed, and free from damage or fading. After each official event, fold the flag carefully and store it safely.

Authorities also emphasize strict don’ts. Never drop, tear, destroy, or disrespect the flag. Violators face fines up to Dh500,000 and imprisonment up to 25 years under Article 3 of Federal Decree-Law No. 13 of 2019. Do not attach logos, emblems, decorations, or altered shapes. Never use the flag on food, such as cakes or sweets. Avoid changing the proportions for decorative purposes. Only the Presidential Flag may display the UAE emblem at its center.

Residents and institutions should inspect the flag before each use. Checking for defects ensures it represents the UAE properly. Online guides and educational campaigns provide step-by-step instructions for raising, folding, and storing the flag correctly.

Observing national flag etiquette strengthens national pride and demonstrates respect for the UAE’s heritage. It helps preserve the flag’s symbolism while inspiring unity across all Emirates. By following these guidelines, everyone contributes to maintaining the flag as a proud symbol of history, culture, and identity.
