Bahrain Strengthens Arab Parliamentary Cooperation at Geneva Meeting

Bahrain continues to advance Arab parliamentary cooperation through active engagement with the Arab Parliament. Recently, the Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, met with Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Ahmed Al Yamahi in Geneva on October 18, 2025. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly.

During the discussions, both sides focused on enhancing partnerships, coordinating legislative efforts, and supporting unified Arab positions in international forums. Moreover, Al Musallam highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to fostering stronger ties among Arab parliaments to promote shared interests and regional stability.

He further emphasized that Bahrain’s approach reflects a long-term vision of supporting development and progress in Arab nations. In addition, strengthening institutions and advancing joint initiatives remain central to Bahrain’s role in regional diplomacy. By fostering collaboration, Bahrain aims to build an effective network of legislative councils that work together on key regional issues.

Meanwhile, Al Musallam recognized the Arab Parliament’s role in advocating for Arab causes on international platforms. He also praised its efforts to improve parliamentary performance and enhance mechanisms for joint legislative work. Consequently, this collaboration ensures that Arab countries present a unified stance on global matters.

Similarly, Al Yamahi expressed appreciation for Bahrain’s proactive support of Arab parliamentary initiatives. He noted that Bahrain’s Parliamentary Division serves as a model for regional cooperation. Furthermore, he commended Bahrain for safeguarding regional security and stability while advancing parliamentary diplomacy.

The meeting included other high-ranking officials, such as Abdulnabi Salman, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Dalal Jassim Al Zayed, members of the Shura Council, and several secretaries-general from both councils. Their presence emphasized Bahrain’s comprehensive commitment to Arab parliamentary cooperation.

Looking ahead, both parties agreed to continue strengthening ties through follow-up meetings, joint initiatives, and knowledge exchange. In addition, these efforts aim to advance sustainable development, enhance legislative efficiency, and foster solidarity among Arab nations.

Overall, Bahrain’s ongoing engagement demonstrates its determination to support legislative collaboration across the region. By actively promoting Arab parliamentary cooperation, the Kingdom continues to build a strong foundation for unified action and regional progress. Therefore, this meeting in Geneva highlights Bahrain’s strategic role in shaping effective parliamentary relations.
