Qatar Al Wakra Hospital Achieves Highest Level Age-Friendly Health Recognition

Qatar Al Wakra Hospital achieved the highest recognition for age-friendly care from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI). This achievement represented a major step forward, as Qatar Al Wakra Hospital earlier held only Level 1 “Participant” status. With the new Level 2 “Committed to Care Excellence” award, Qatar Al Wakra Hospital now ranks among the top regional centers for elderly care.

Moreover, Al Wakra medical center expanded its services for patients over 60 by applying new international best practices. This recognition confirmed the Qatari hospital’s strong role in improving care standards for older adults. In addition, the healthcare facility in Al Wakra joined Rumailah Hospital as one of two Level 2 institutions in Qatar. Therefore, elderly citizens in the country now receive safer and more personalized services.

Dr. Hanadi Khamis Al-Hamad, Deputy Chief for Long-Term Care, Rehabilitation, and Geriatrics, praised the progress. She explained that the healthcare facility in Al Wakra advanced quickly from Participant to Committed to Care Excellence. Furthermore, she stressed the importance of expanding health services as Qatar’s elderly population continues to grow. She also promised that the Qatari hospital and other HMC facilities will keep supporting healthy aging.

Dr. Omar Mohd Al Qahtani, CEO and Medical Director, also highlighted the success. He explained that the medical center in Al Wakra improved outcomes by applying global age-friendly practices. Additionally, he emphasized that the award reflected the dedication of the medical teams. He confirmed that the Qatari hospital will continue working with the geriatrics department to improve care. Consequently, elderly patients will always receive compassionate and personalized treatment.

At the same time, Nasser Al Naimi, Chief of Patient Experience and Director of Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute, congratulated the staff. He explained that cooperation with IHI raised healthcare standards across the wider system. Therefore, the recognition achieved by Qatar Al Wakra Hospital will also influence services beyond one facility.

Finally, the award demonstrated Qatar’s growing leadership in elderly care. It placed Al Wakra medical center in Qataron the global stage as a center of age-friendly excellence. As a result, international health experts now view Qatar’s hospital system as a model of innovation and dedication. In conclusion, Al Wakra Hospital in Qatar showed how strong teamwork and vision can transform senior healthcare.
