Kuwait Unveils Comprehensive Curriculum Overhaul for New School Year

The Ministry of Education has launched significant educational reforms. These changes take effect for the 2025-2026 academic year. Consequently, elementary schools will see a restructured curriculum. The goal is to enhance academic achievement and create a stimulating environment.

Key changes include new subjects for younger students. Social studies classes will now begin in grades one through three. Additionally, grades four and five will receive more social studies periods. A new Arabic language period strengthens reading and writing skills. Computer science also debuts for early grades. This introduces technology and programming fundamentals. Furthermore, science and mathematics periods expand significantly. This develops analytical and scientific thinking.

The ministry also shortened the class period duration. Each period now lasts 40 minutes instead of 45. This optimization aims to improve learning and classroom activities.

Education Minister Jalal Al-Tabtabaei congratulated educators. He praised their vital role in shaping future generations. He emphasized the ministry’s commitment to providing resources. These include modern classrooms, laboratories, and educational tools. Such support fosters creativity and innovation.

Preparations for these changes began over the summer. Textbooks were printed and distributed comprehensively. Therefore, teaching staff received extensive training. Courses covered new curriculum philosophy and teaching methodologies. They also focused on student-centered tools and modern evaluation techniques. Training occurred both in-person and online.

These reforms align with Kuwait’s Vision 2035. They aim to provide advanced skills in language, science, and technology. Simultaneously, they strengthen national identity. Approximately 132,000 teachers and administrators return to schools. They are ready to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

The ministry also supports digital transformation. Electronic copies of textbooks will be available. This facilitates digital learning and modernizes education.
