Bahrain Parliament Strengthens Role in Environmental Management

Environmental management in Bahrain is gaining renewed strength through strong legislative support and strategic green initiatives. The Speaker of the Council of Representatives emphasized the Parliament’s key role in developing policies that protect the environment. This commitment includes drafting new environmental laws and promoting sustainable technologies in all sectors.

In line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030, Parliament is working to align national efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The Speaker stressed that sustainability remains central to the legislative agenda. He affirmed that supporting environmentally friendly practices is no longer optional but necessary.

The Council of Representatives recently earned the ISO 14001:2015 certification for environmental management systems. This certification positions Bahrain’s Parliament as a regional leader in green governance. However, it is the first legislative body in the Middle East to receive this global recognition. This achievement clearly demonstrates the country’s commitment to environmental management in Bahrain.

During a formal meeting, the Speaker congratulated key staff on reaching this milestone. He met with Eng. Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sisi Al-Buainain, Secretary-General of the Council. Also present were Dr. Yasser Saqr Al-Shirawi, Assistant Secretary-General for Resources and Services, Ghassan Ibrahim Makki, Quality Assurance and Development Expert, and Noura Jaber Muhanna, Environment Representative.

He applauded the team’s work in applying the ISO system. He also noted their consistent efforts to improve internal practices and embrace international standards. Furthermore, he encouraged continued progress toward environmental and administrative excellence.

The Speaker highlighted that environmental management in Bahrain must evolve with global benchmarks. He believes this transformation begins with action at the highest levels of government. Therefore, the Council of Representatives will continue to lead by example.

Bahrain’s approach combines environmental protection with smart policy planning. Through cooperation between legislative bodies and administrative teams, real change is possible. The Speaker concluded by reaffirming the Parliament’s ongoing dedication to sustainable development.
