Emirati farmer Mohammed Obaid Al Mazrouei has turned his decade-long passion for flowers into a flourishing farm that now boasts over 50,000 flowers, including 25 imported varieties. Located in the Aisima area of Ras Al KhaimahThe farm, which opened its doors to the public in 2020, has become known for its vibrant floral displays.
Al Mazrouei’s journey into the world of flowers began over 10 years ago, when he was still a high school student with a dream of owning a flower farm. Inspired by his fascination with flowers, he started researching flower farms online. His curiosity led him to Europe, where he collected seeds to plant in the UAE. These seeds successfully flourished, encouraging him to import more seeds from countries like the US, the Netherlands, the UK, Russia, and Italy.
Despite initial skepticism about growing such flowers in the UAE, Al Mazrouei’s persistence and determination paid off. His farm now features a variety of flowers, including Snapdragon, Salvia, Stock, and Mexican sunflower, among others. This season, he introduced Swiss flower varieties in the hope that they will thrive in the upcoming growing season.
One of his proudest achievements is the lavender he planted last season. Withstanding the intense summer heat, it has now entered its second blooming season. Al Mazrouei aims to produce locally made lavender oil. This oil is highly sought-after and is used in perfumes, soaps, lotions, shampoos, and other cosmetics.
In addition to flowers, Al Mazrouei’s farm offers an array of family-friendly activities. These include horse rides for children, a variety of bird species, and even peacocks roaming the grounds. The farm also includes a cozy café for visitors to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
The farm is open to the public daily from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm. An exception is Fridays, when it opens after the Friday prayers. Additionally, Admission is priced at Dh15 per person. There is free entry for children under three years old, individuals with disabilities, and school students.
Al Mazrouei also has plans for expansion with a farm project in Bosnia. There, he intends to cultivate 10,000 lavender plants, branding them as products from the UAE in Europe.
Despite facing challenges, such as figuring out the optimal planting time for each variety, Al Mazrouei’s careful timing ensures that his flowers bloom at the same time. This creates a stunning visual display. The farm is particularly admired for its breathtaking floral views, offering a tranquil experience for families.
During the summer, the farm takes a break. It focuses on soil preparation using fertilizers and irrigation before planting resumes in October.
Al Mazrouei has received recognition from Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, for his achievements. Local government departments, including the municipality and tourism authority, have supported his efforts by providing permits for the farm free of charge.
